 Captain Mick Moore is a licensed 100 Ton
USCG Master Captain, and has a long record of sailboat racing
in Southern california and Mexico. A sailing lesson from Mick
is a sailing lesson from one of the best. Born and raised
in San Diego, no one knows the San Diego / Mexican waters
better than Mick
Growing up with
parents that were members of San Diego Yacht Club in the early
60s, Mick was introduced to sailing at an early age when his
father would provide boat deliveries up and down the California
Coast.
He is a member
of both Point Loma Yacht Club and Silver Gate Yacht Club.
He has been on the board of directors for PLYC
since 2013, and was Commodore in 2016. He is currently a Staff
Commodore at PLYC.
Mick has over
40 years of sailing experience from 27' coastal cruisers and
Catamarans, to 72' America's Cup racing yachts and everything
in between, including twin screw Sport yachts and fishing
boats.
He is a class 3
certified racing sailor, a certified scuba diver, and avid
surfer. Mick loves all things that have to do with the ocean.
Captain Curtis Collins is a
licensed 100 Ton USCG Master Captain.
Curtis moved to Hawaii in 1980 with two surfboards, a bicycle,
and $500 in cash, $200 of which was spent on a one-way ticket
to the islands.
Curtis bought his first boat,
a 25' Coronado and singlehanded that vessel around the Hawaiian
Islands until he was able to buy a 41' Bounty II Yawl, which
he owned for over 20 years.
When he finally had the chance
to purchase his dream boat, an RP 44 called "Siesta",
he did so without reservation, and sailed it to the west coast
and back four times, setting records in Hawaii during his
offshore racing career.
Curtis has been sailing for
over 45 years, 40 of which were spent sailing in and around
the Hawaiian Islands. Since moving to San Diego, he has been
racing local events, including the Mexican Islands, and up
and down the west coast.
His experience includes racing
yachts from 20' on up to the 70'super maxi's. He has captained
50' Catamaran's in Hawaii as well as San Diego, and continues
to do so today.
Curtis makes sailing a fun
and enjoyable event every time he's on the water.
 Captain Mike Sopher is a licensed 50
Ton USCG Master and a San Diego native. Having gotten bitten
by the sailing bug back in the early 80’s, Mike learned
the dynamics of sailing early.
Living in Mission Beach with a Prindle 18’ Catamaran
parked right across the street on the bayside meant many fun-filled days single hulling across the
bay, while learning the basic of sailing.
In the early 2000’s Mike purchased his first sloop, a
Pearson 30’, then followed it up with a Catalina 34’ and realized that sailing for him, was going
to be a lifetime passion.
Being a fulltime Realtor, Mike enjoys sailing weekly,
racing with friends when possible, and many other outdoor activities such as mountain biking,
paddle boarding & surfing, camping & hiking, scuba and staying fit.
